What Families Say

Honest Words from
the People We Serve

The most meaningful measure of our work is not what we say about ourselves β€” it is what families experience when we are present, day after day, in their loved one's home.

LC

Liu Chun-Hua

Daughter of client, Daan District

My mother was reluctant to accept help at home β€” she has always been very independent. The coordinator at Sunholm was patient with her from the start, and the caregiver they chose seemed to understand that instinctively. Within a few weeks, my mother was telling me she was glad we had arranged it.

Wang Jun-Yi

Son of client, Zhongzheng District

My father had been staying home increasingly after a fall last year. The guided outdoor sessions have made a noticeable difference β€” he has somewhere to walk to, someone to talk with, and he is much more settled. The caregiver keeps a comfortable pace and never makes him feel rushed.

Chen Hsiao-Wen

Granddaughter of client, Da'an

We chose the full residential package for my grandmother when it became clear she needed someone present through the night. The caregiver who was matched has been wonderful β€” consistently calm, genuinely kind, and very attentive. Our whole family feels settled knowing she is in good hands at home.

Lin Mei-Ling

Daughter of client, Wenshan District

I was initially unsure about in-home care as an option β€” I thought my mother might find it intrusive. What changed my mind was the initial consultation. The coordinator listened carefully and offered suggestions that fit our actual situation, rather than just explaining the services they had available.

Tsai Kuo-Ming

Son-in-law of client, Daan District

The caregiver who accompanies my father-in-law on his walks has become genuinely familiar to him. He looks forward to the outings now, which I would not have predicted. What I appreciate is that they adjust the routes based on how he is feeling on a given day β€” it never feels rigid or mechanical.

Huang Yun-Fang

Daughter of client, Xinyi District

We have been with Sunholm for three months now under the full residential arrangement. Settling my father took some time, as it would with anyone β€” but the team handled the transition with real patience. The quarterly review last month was thorough and genuinely useful for the whole family.

How Care Has Made a Difference

Three situations we were trusted to support β€” described as they were experienced.

The Challenge

An 81-year-old woman living alone in Daan District was managing household tasks with increasing difficulty. Her daughter, working in Zhonghe, was worried but unable to visit frequently enough to feel certain the home was safe and well-maintained.

The Approach

Sunholm arranged twice-weekly visits from a female caregiver whose experience included working with seniors in similar living situations. The first few visits were kept brief and relaxed, allowing a natural familiarity to develop before settling into a full routine.

What Changed

The home became consistently well-kept, and the daughter reported feeling far less anxious about her mother's daily situation. The senior herself began to mention the visits positively β€” something the family had not necessarily expected at the outset.

"I used to drive over on weekends feeling apprehensive. Now I arrive and the house is in good order, and my mother is in better spirits." β€” Liu Chun-Hua

The Challenge

A 76-year-old retired engineer had largely stopped going outside after a mild fall the previous year. His mobility was fine, but his confidence outdoors had not recovered. His family noticed a withdrawal that was affecting his overall wellbeing.

The Approach

Guided outdoor sessions were introduced three times per week, starting with short walks near the apartment. The caregiver was matched specifically for his interest in local history β€” something to talk about and explore together on each outing.

What Changed

Within six weeks, the outings had extended in duration and range. His family described a return of his characteristic curiosity and engagement. Sessions are now extended to include visits to markets and the Da'an Forest Park area.

"He has started pointing out buildings he remembers from when Taipei was being built up. It is a version of him we had not seen for a while." β€” Wang Jun-Yi

The Challenge

A 78-year-old woman needed full-time support after her primary carer β€” her husband β€” was hospitalised. Three adult children, all with young families of their own, needed to arrange something reliable within a short timeframe and without disrupting their mother's home routines.

The Approach

Sunholm arranged a full residential placement within four days. The live-in caregiver was introduced to the senior before moving in, and the care plan was developed with input from the three siblings to address each family member's priorities alongside the senior's own preferences.

What Changed

The senior remained in her home throughout her husband's hospital recovery β€” an outcome the family had hoped for but had not been certain was achievable. Regular family updates kept siblings aligned and informed throughout the transition period.

"We needed to act quickly and we weren't sure what to expect. Everything was handled calmly and transparently β€” it took a great deal of weight off the three of us." β€” Chen Hsiao-Wen
